After Effects Tutorial: Export for Vimeo

Vimeo is a popular video hosting platform that allows users to upload, share, and view high-quality videos. To ensure your After Effects projects look their best on Vimeo, it’s important to export them using the correct settings. This tutorial will guide you through the process of exporting your After Effects projects for Vimeo.

Step 1: Create a New Composition

In After Effects, open the project containing the composition you want to export for Vimeo. If you haven’t already, create a new composition that meets Vimeo’s video specifications. Vimeo recommends using a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels for HD videos and 1280x720 pixels for SD videos. You can also use a custom resolution, but keep in mind that larger resolutions will result in larger file sizes.

Step 2: Select the Export Option

Go to File > Export and choose Add to Adobe Media Encoder. This will open the Adobe Media Encoder application, where you can fine-tune the export settings for your video.

Step 3: Choose the Vimeo Preset

In the Adobe Media Encoder, click on the Preset Browser panel. In the search bar, type Vimeo. You will see a variety of presets optimized for Vimeo’s video playback. Choose the preset that matches the resolution of your composition. For example, if your composition is 1920x1080 pixels, choose the Vimeo 1080p preset.

Step 4: Adjust Output Settings

If you need to make any adjustments to the output settings, you can do so in the Output panel. Make sure the Format is set to H.264. You can also adjust the bitrate, frame rate, and other settings to your liking.

Step 5: Specify the Output File

Click on the Output File field and enter the desired location and filename for your exported video. Make sure the file extension is set to .mp4.

Step 6: Start the Export

Click the green Queue button at the bottom of the Adobe Media Encoder window. This will start the export process. The export time will depend on the length of your video and the complexity of your effects.

Step 7: Upload to Vimeo

Once the export is complete, you can upload the video to Vimeo. Go to the Vimeo website and log in to your account. Click the Upload button and select the exported video file. Vimeo will automatically process your video and make it available for viewing.

Conclusion

By following these steps, you can ensure that your After Effects projects look their best when exported for Vimeo. Vimeo is a great platform for sharing your creative work with the world, and by using the correct export settings, you can make sure that your videos are always seen in their best light.
