Premiere Pro Tutorial : Make Social Cuts

Social media platforms have specific requirements for video formats, including aspect ratio, resolution, and file size. To make social cuts in Premiere Pro, you need to edit your video to meet these requirements.

Step 1: Set your workspace

Open your project and make sure you are in the Editing workspace. You can do this by going to Window > Workspaces > Editing.

Step 2: Find the action

Identify the key moments in your video that you want to highlight. You can use the playback controls to scrub through the video and find these moments.

Step 3: Choose your motion

Once you have found the key moments in your video, you need to decide how you want to transition between them. You can use cuts, dissolves, or other transitions to create a dynamic and engaging video.

Step 4: Transition the cuts

To transition between cuts, you can use the default transitions in Premiere Pro. To do this, right-click between the two clips and choose Apply Default Transitions. You can also choose from a variety of other transitions by going to Video Effects > Transitions.

Step 5: Give it a title

You may want to add a title to your social cut video. To do this, select the Type tool from the toolbar and click in the Program Monitor where you want to place the title. Type your title and then use the Selection tool to move and resize it.

Step 6: Reframe your work

Many social media platforms have specific aspect ratios for videos. For example, Instagram videos are typically square (1:1) or vertical (9:16). To reframe your video, select the sequence in the Project panel and choose Sequence > Auto Reframe Sequence. Then, select the Target Aspect Ratio that you want to use.

Step 7: Export your video

Once you are finished editing your social cut video, you need to export it in a format that is compatible with the social media platform where you will be sharing it. To do this, go to File > Export > Media. Select the format that you want to use and then click Export.

Tips for making social cuts

  • Keep your videos short and to the point. Most social media platforms have time limits for videos.
  • Use high-quality video footage. Your videos will look better on social media if they are shot in high quality.
  • Use eye-catching visuals. Social media users are more likely to watch videos that are visually appealing.
  • Add text and music to your videos. Text and music can make your videos more engaging and informative.
  • Use relevant hashtags. Hashtags can help people find your videos on social media.

By following these tips, you can create social cut videos that are informative, engaging, and shareable.
